Awesome Athletes In OCR - Marion Cundari

We've been bringing you short interviews from some of the awesome athletes in the sport of OCR. This time, we have the pleasure to bring you a look into the OCR life of Marion Cundari!

Without further ado, Marion!

What was your first OCR ever? (Brand/Company, Distance, Location)

2013 Ruckus in MA. I don't think they exist anymore, but it was a muddy 5k!

Would you rather run 12 miles on flat ground, or 6 miles on mountains? Why?

Give me 12 miles in the mountains! All day everyday! Love the technical ascents/descents.

Can you tell us about an obstacle that you used to struggle to complete and what training you've done to conquer that obstacle now?

The 8ft+ walls were tough (I'm only 5'4"). I nailed down using my feet to repel off the wall and hook a heal to easily pop over these now. Rigs also haunt me - even with grip strength training!

You're driving to a 10 mile OCR event. Your car breaks down on the side of the road 2 miles away from the race venue. Are you going to run to the venue in order to make your wave release time, or are you going to give up and see if the race will let you run at a different event?

I'm usually running to my start times even when I make it to the parking area - so ya I'm getting that extra warm up in so I can compete!

What is your shoe of choice for OCR racing and training?

For racing I almost always wear the Salming OT Comp. For training I toggle between the Salming Greyhound, Salming Trail6, and the Salming OT comp depending on training type. I'm an ambassador for Salming and invite you to try out their shoes with my discount code CUNDARIFRIENDS.

How many days per week do you typically work out?

In a perfect week, I'm at 5-6 days. But I'm juggling work and part time graduate school so sometimes that dips to 3 days unfortunately.

Be honest, how healthily do you eat the majority of the time, and what are your favorite healthy foods?

I follow a plant based diet (no meat or dairy). So I eat a lot of fruits and veggies, but I'll always crack for tortilla chips, vegan pizza and good beer!

What is your current favorite distance to race and why?

Beast, in particular the mountain venues. I love the challenge of these races! I think it also still excites the old me that never thought they could run more than 5 miles at a time.

Don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings here. Which OCR company's events do you like most, and why? Oh man, such a loaded question! For a smaller race its F.I.T Challenge, hands down! But for the bigger events and for the race distances I prefer, Spartan Race.

If you could eat any food/meal you wanted the night before a big race, what would you have?

Roasted veggies and tofu over rice (I know that sounds so basic - but its realistically what I crave!!)

How many miles do you run in an average training week?

Right now I'm only averaging around 20 miles.

What has been your favorite part about racing/competing in OCR so far?

This is a hard question for me. OCR has had such a positive impact on many facets of my life. I think I really enjoy the adventure of it all - racing at a new venue, trying to conquer a new obstacle, and making friends!

If you'd never found OCR, what sport/athletics do you think you'd be training for/participating in right now?

Trail running and alpine touring. These are things I currently do in addition to OCR that I really enjoy!

Do you HATE, LOVE, or TOLERATE water obstacles at races? LOVE! Bring on that Killington swim

What one single piece of advice would you give 2-year-ago you for improving in OCR?

Be more consistent in training, especially with regards to running!
